Hey there Miles
TAPERING QUESTION

So here’s my situation. I am running the Madison, WI marathon on the 27th and I have run into a little issue.

This past Sunday I was supposed to go my longest long run of this training program (22 miles), but I had a pretty bad flu the past two weeks. I ran 20 miles 2 weeks prior with no problems. The race is in 3 Sundays.

Here’s my question. Do I attempt to do another final long run this upcoming weekend? If so that would only leave me with 1 week of taper long runs.

Is this too much of a risk with the race only 3 weeks away?

If I start tapering this next weekend (12 miles, 6 miles the following 2 weekends, respectively) that will also have given me 5 weeks between my 20 mile run and the marathon. Is this too much of a taper period?

Ultimately this will be my 7th full marathon in 3 years, but I am making it a point to try to PR at Madison.

Can someone please give me some idea on how I should treat this so I can stop stressing out about it?

Thanks!

Question: Runners

I currently run in NB Minimus Roads and i used to run in Nike Frees. I’m looking for a new shoe. I am a neutral runner that doesn’t require too much cushioning. Anyone have any nuggets?

The physical conditioning and preparation that these actors went through is remarkable. I have the utmost respect for Gerard Butler, who seems to be able to manipulate his training and conditioning for any film role!
This is supposedly one of the workouts used:
THE “ORIGINAL” 300 WORKOUT
Pullups - 25 reps
Barbell Deadlift with 135 lbs. - 50 reps
Pushups - 50 reps
24-inch Box Jumps - 50 reps
Floor Wipers - 50 reps
Single-Arm Clean-and-Press with 36 lbs Kettlebell - 50 reps
Pullups - 25 reps

Madison Marathon Training: Week 8 (Cutback Edition)

It’s been a while since I’ve blogged. One of the weeks I was on vacation and the other week I came down with a really nasty cold. I didn’t do anything really worth blogging.

Here’s the Week:

Sunday: 6 Mile pace

Monday: 2 Mile run, 45 minutes weights (chest and back)

Tuesday: 5 Mile run

Wednesday: 4 Mile Treadmill Fartlek, 45 minutes weights (shoulders, biceps, triceps)

Thursday: Rest/Stretch

Friday: 5 mile run, Fran (xFit). 10:03min.

Lows of the Week: Wednesday I ate broasted chicken for dinner. NOT a clean meal at all.

Highs of the Week: Fran. Now I’m exhausted

14 mile run scheduled for tomorrow morning, but once again North Shore Chicago is covered with snow. Won’t be going for time this week. Just safety.

Back from Vacation

Keep an eye out for new posts. Sorry I was gone for so long!

Week 5: Madison Marathon Training

I got 24 miles in this week. Weather was pretty mild. Still got into the gym to hit the weights. Here’s the week.

Sunday: 10 mile treadmill run (again). 1:36:50.

Monday: 2 mile cool down run. 60 minutes weights. Chest and back.

Tuesday: 4 mile run

Wednesday: 3.5 mile treadmill Fartlek. 45 minutes weights. Shoulders-Biceps-Triceps.

Thursday: Rest/Stretch

Friday: 5 mile run. Barbara (XFit). 20 pull-ups, 30 push-ups, 40 sit-ups, 50 squats. Five rounds for time. Today, 25:23.

Saturday: Rest/Stretch

Lows of the Week: I live in Chicagoland, there’s deep dish pizza everywhere. I had pizza this week. Yikes. Also rolled my ankle trying not to step on my cat. Everything is all good though.

Highs of the Week: Average under 9:40 mile pace all week. It’s a record for me. Dig it.

I’m getting kinda nervous bc I’ve been on such a heater for the past 5 weeks. I am going on Vacation (in Vegas) for 4 days. Let’s see how this goes.

Have a 12-mile long run on Sunday. Bring it on Miles!

Thanks for the motivation!

Quick Question: Running Shoes

Fellow Runners!

Just looking to see what shoe everyone is running in. I am currently running in the New Balance Minimus. Incredible shoe.

What shoes are you running with?
